After three years, DAC and the Serbian goalkeeper are parting ways.

Aleksandar Popoviĉ is leaving DAC after three years. The contract of the 26-year-old Serbian goalkeeper expires at the end of June, and the two parties did not reach an agreement on its extension.

The Partizan Belgrade academy graduate joined DAC in the summer of 2023 and quickly established himself as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. He made 81 league appearances for DAC, keeping 31 clean sheets. He also featured twice in the UEFA Conference League and made 8 appearances in the Slovnaft Cup.

“I leave with the best memories. I truly enjoyed these three years and I am very grateful to everyone at the club. This was my first experience outside Serbia, so I will remember it for the rest of my life. In every match and every training session, I always tried to give my maximum. I think we achieved very good results. Of course, things can always be better, but they can also be worse. That is why we can be satisfied and proud of what we achieved over the last three years. Every season we managed to qualify for European competitions, which I consider a great success,“ said Aleksandar Popoviĉ in his farewell message.

“We offered Aleksandar the opportunity to continue his career at DAC after the expiration of his current contract, but the visions of the two parties regarding future cooperation ultimately differed too much, and we could not reach an agreement. At the same time, we have a quality solution in the goalkeeping position in Filipe, in whom we have confidence for the future. We thank Aleksandar for everything he contributed during his three years in Dunajská Streda. We appreciate his professionalism, performances, and attitude, and we wish him nothing but the best in the next stage of his career and in his personal life,” added CEO of DAC Jan Van Daele.
